PAI's Work on SRH/HIV Integration
The Mobilizing for RH/HIV Integration Initiative
About the Initiative:
T
he Mobilizing for RH/HIV Integration Initiative is an international advocacy project that seeks to secure support for the integration of sexual and reproductive health with HIV/AIDS in policies, programs and services. The Initiative’s efforts are focused on increasing integration through the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, TB and Malaria, an international financing mechanism that provides financial and technical resources to support country-driven demand for fighting these three diseases.
PAI’s primary partners in the Initiative are the Friends of the Global Fund Africa, the Global AIDS Alliance, Interact Worldwide, the International HIV/AIDS Alliance, and the International Planned Parenthood Federation Africa Regional Office.
The Initiative has three specific goals:
- Accelerate country demand and Global Fund support for SRH/HIV integrated policies, programs and services through advocacy.
- Support in-country civil society organizations to participate in the development and implementation of GF proposals.
- Advocate the GF Secretariat and other key structures to prioritize SRH/HIV integration as a critical component of scaling up access to HIV/AIDS prevention, treatment and care.
How We Work:
The Initiative focuses its efforts on ten countries in sub-Saharan Africa: Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cameroon, Ghana, Madagascar, Mozambique, Namibia, Nigeria, Tanzania and Zambia.
For each country, the Initiative provides:
- A liaison person from among the Initiative’s partner organizations. These liaisons can trouble-shoot, provide strategic interventions and link to other resources provided by the Initiative.
- Small grants to support local civil society organizations. Grantee organizations advocate for the inclusion of integrated policies, programs and services within Global Fund proposals and may position themselves to receive GF funding to support their efforts.
- Access to two regional Technical Assistance Hubs. These Hubs supply countries with national and regional consultants who focus on proposal development related to SRH/HIV integration.
