PAI Hails Increase in Family Planning Funding

After months of PAI advocacy work with lawmakers on Capitol Hill, international family planning programs received a significant boost in recent weeks as Congress endorsed major increases in U.S. assistance to meet the family planning (FP)  needs of millions of women and couples in poor, developing nations.  Both the House and Senate have initially approved significant funding increases for these programs, as well as a policy change that will allowthe U.S. to once again help fund the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA).  PAI heartily commends all the congressional supporters of international FP programs, especially the chairs of the respective House and Senate foreign assistance subcommittees, Representative Nita Lowey (D-NY) and Senator Patrick Leahy (D-VT), for their steadfast commitment to increasing U.S. assistance for these life-saving programs.
